Interim Deputy Chief Nurse

Job Description

We are working with an NHS provider organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim Deputy Chief Nurse for a 3 month contract initially though this may extend.

This role will start ASAP and will be via the CCS NMNC RM6277 framework at Band 9 with an expected day rate of c£550 per day.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Deputise for the Chief Nurse when required;

  • Provide senior, credible professional advice and support to the Chief Nurse and to Nurses and Midwives across the Trust acting as a professional lead for Trust priority areas such as patient experience, patient safety, ‘children, families and vulnerable people’;

  • Ensure the maintenance of professional standards of care within the relevant codes of Professional;

  • Lead and empower excellence in the delivery of high quality patient centred care and services that support the development and implementation of the Trust’s Nursing & Midwifery Strategy, Together We Care and the evolving Philosophy of Care;

  • Oversee performance monitoring of nursing care and professional standards within the agreed portfolio leadership role to ensure that objectives and targets are achieved (internal and external) and that performance reporting requirements are satisfied. This includes collaborating with Divisional Chief Nurses, Divisional Directors and TEC leaders in setting and maintaining clinical and professional standards within nursing and midwifery and promoting the development of integrated inter-professional care;

  • Lead on the Trust’s Harm Free Care Strategy implementation to reduce harm and achieve the Trusts Quality Priorities;

  • Lead on the Trust’s Ward Accreditation programme to improve standards and achieve CQC Outstanding;

  • Actively lead on stakeholder liaison, seeking opportunities to engage with the public and in so doing enhance the reputation of the Trust as a local service provider and employer of choice;

  • Undertake leadership and managerial responsibility for one or more corporate teams as relevant to their portfolio of Trust-wide responsibilities;

  • Work in partnership with the Medical Director, other Deputies and the Director of Workforce to support the Workforce transformation, Clinical Education Strategy, and ensure alignment and effective contribution to the wider Trust strategic aims;

  • Manage all resources for specified services, staff and budgets within the Corporate team to ensure that expenditure and income is within budget, and to ensure compliance with Trust financial protocols.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Professional Registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council;

  • Relevant Health / Nursing Master’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience Management leadership qualification or equivalent relevant experience;

  • Substantial demonstrable experience as a senior nurse in a large and complex organisation; Demonstrable experience of improving patient experience and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and delivery excellence;

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Nursing and Midwifery workforce changes; Developing and maintaining assurance systems to maintain professional standards;

  • Provide strong, visible and professional leadership across professional boundaries; Demonstrable success in leading and delivering change and performance with and through diverse clinical teams.
