Lead Nurse Safeguarding Children and Young People

Job Description

Finegreen are currently supporting a large NHS organisation in the appointment of Safeguarding nursing professional for an initial period of 3 months.

You will need to have recent experience working at Named Nurse level or above, covering Children and Young People Safeguarding will need to be an expert practitioner within this area.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that the organisation meets its safeguarding responsibilities regarding children, young people, and families within the care of acute and community services;

  • Be a role model for all nurses and midwives by practising safeguarding to the highest standard, whilst exercising a high degree of personal and professional autonomy;

  • Providing formal, regular and structured safeguarding supervision to junior members of the safeguarding team in line with supervision policies;

  • Promoting the visibility of the children’s safeguarding team ensuring liaison daily with paediatric ward areas and those adult wards where adolescents have been admitted;

  • Advising on clinical practice in complex cases;

  • Participating in Safeguarding Children Learning Practice Reviews and Case Audits, making recommendations for action plans;

  • Being responsible for ensuring that Internal Management Reviews and Case Chronologies are reviewed in order to initiate, conduct and evaluate Practice Reviews regarding child deaths or areas of public interest in relation to child welfare under part 8 Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010);

  • Providing evidence based clinical advice on all aspects of practice in relation to vulnerable children/children in need/children at significant harm;

  • Effectively communicating highly complex, sensitive, distressing information concerning safeguarding children to appropriate colleagues in a variety of disciplines and teams;

  • Inspiring colleagues to improve standards and quality of care and to develop professional practice in safeguarding;

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Current NMC registration as RSCN/Midwife/Health Visitor or Community Public Health Nurse;

  • Evidenced by career background, 5 years + experience working specifically in a dedicated Safeguarding role at Named Nurse level or above;

  • Detailed and thorough knowledge of safeguarding children agenda;

  • Demonstrable leadership skills, with excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and

  • influencing skills demonstrated by the ability to engage others in challenged situations.
