Hull City Council is the unitary authority and governing body for the city of Kingston upon Hull. As a unitary authority, it handles all local government functions undertaken within its area.

It’s history can be traced back through their predecessor, the Hull Corporation, to its original foundation by the royal charter of 1299. Hull is Yorkshire’s port on the confluence of the Humber Estuary and is the fourth-largest city in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The financial management team support all key Council services, one of which this position will be responsible for supporting. This role is key to the successful management and delivery of the Council’s finances and financial obligations.

The successful post holder will manage and provide financial input to the strategy for Assistant Directors whilst leading the provision of financial support and guidance to ensure statutory requirements for financial management and accountability are met and projects are delivered in line with financial regulations and deliver value for money for the Council.

Acting as the co-ordinating officer for Business Finance – the post holder will manage the processes around assessing and prioritising existing and incoming demands and allocating tasks to particular finance staff at certain levels.

This is a permanent role and the successful post holder will be a CCAB qualified Accountant who can demonstrate competencies across the following areas:

  • Management experience which demonstrates the ability to initiate, plan, monitor, develop and implement service provision;

  • Experience in managing complex data and information from a variety of sources, and ability to analyse and interpret performance data;

  • Possesses a detailed understanding of methods, systems and procedures, technical practices to manage areas of operational services;

  • Experience of supporting the management of a substantial amount of financial, people and other resources;

  • Experience of successfully leading a team of staff.
